Aleinikov&Partners law firm finalized the M&A transaction on acquisition MAPS.ME by Mail.Ru Group.
MAPS.ME (formerly named MapsWithMe) is a mobile maps and navigation service based on OpenStreetMap data that allows users to access maps both online and offline. The app was initially developed by Zurich-based MapsWithMe GmbH with a development office in Minsk.
“Adding the MAPS.ME team to work together on our global expansion was a strategic move,” – said Dmitry Grishin, Co-Founder and CEO of Mail.Ru Group.“OpenStreetMap has a remarkable idea of crowdsourced maps behind it, and we believe that its role all over the world is going to increase.”
Thanks to the acquisition, Mail.Ru Group will be able to compete with Google and Yandex, which already have their own map services, more successful.
